This past week I finally started doing a better job of sharing our vision. A company’s vision and how it shares this story is a key pillar in its growth. A company can grow without being a good vision sharer (storyteller), but it makes the growth slower and harder. When one gets up on stage (metaphorically) and shares their vision, with passion, it’s magnetic and can help split the sea. What medium did we add to our story-sharing tools this week? Video. I made and shared new videos on Vimeo. (By the way, notice how Vimeo is adopting a Facebook-like layout…and it echoes our Bridge Home Page. ‘Cover’ video. 'Contact card' on the left. Maybe they want Facebook to buy them?!)
I initially heard about the importance of storytelling from Scott Galloway. Galloway says that Google wants to “organize the world’s information” and Facebook wants to “connect the world.” Our vision: connect the retail community. An image I made in 2012 that appeared in HFN visualized this connected retail community.
This past week we passed the 750 Bridge Store mark (…the next time I draw our network, I’m gonna need a bigger pen...). With each new member, one would think that we get closer to some sort of completion or finish line, but in reality, I believe just the opposite: each new member highlights territory we’ve yet to chart and conquer!
