Amazon.com has removed 20,000 product reviews after a Financial Times (FT) investigation suggested that some of the site's top U.K. reviewers may have profited from leaving positive ratings, reports Business Insider. The paper's analysis showed nine of Amazon's top 10 U.K. reviewers dished out five-star reviews to products from little-known Chinese brands. The FT found the same products in Facebook groups and forums that offer free products or money in exchange for ratings....

Part of my job is to review registry software. I ensure that it works well for retailers, registrants, and gift-givers (family and friends). I also assess whether it offers good value (price vs results).
A retailer recently shared with me that it uses the service MyRegistry.com. I reviewed the retailer's site and how a customer would make a registry purchase via MyRegistry.com. For privacy purposes, I changed the name of the store in the screenshots shown.
Your Bridge gift registry software looks better in Google than your competitors' software. In this example, we can see how Breed, a retailer in Texas, appears in Google. Breed's listing shows the number of registries and reviews. Competitors listings do not show quantitative information--and look drab by comparison.
Google 'likes' this these statistics because it shows that your registry software is unique and you're servicing customers. Customers like these statistics because ...

Are brands bypassing stores? A new survey says 'yes' they are: 40% of Americans shopped directly from a brand in the past year, according a Diffussion survey.
Shoppers are choosing to bypass stores because the brands are undercutting them on prices, and offering faster and cheaper shipping.
How are brands getting in front of customers? Answer: Facebook and Instagram. A shopper visits a retailer's website for brand X, then Facebook puts a tracking pixel on the shopper, and then ...

An expert in today’s WSJ estimates that 30% of Amazon reviews are fake. In addition, Amazon gives its Vine users free products to post reviews. I’m thinking 40% are suspect.
The article shares that customers value a product with more reviews and a lower average rating than a product with fewer reviews and a higher average.
The service ReviewMeta allows one to test an Amazon page for fake reviews. Fakespot is another fake review service.
You can customize your home page slides. You can add pictures of your store, products, events, and more.
In the examples shown, we see how the Seattle-based store Timothy de Clue loaded a picture of a wine glass with the Pike Place Market in the background. Persnickety, a shop based in Madison, MS, added a picture of its store's exterior.
By default, your Newsfeed slideshow includes slides promoting gift cards, your gift registry, and reviews. You can hide these if you wish. You can also ...

How can you better understand your website?
Imagine that your website is a digital version of your physical store. In this graphic, I compare your roof to your website's meta data, your sidewalk to your wedding website traffic, and your store window to your home page's slides.
Heres how your store compares to your website:
1. Sidewalk = Small websites and blogs that lead to your website such as local newspaper sites, local community groups, and wedding websites. These sites provide ‘foot traffic....

Your Bridge 2.0 update is complete. Your site now offers a smoother, cleaner experience for customers--and you.
Your upgrade to 2.0 software is free and automatic--you do not need to take any steps. This free upgrade is especially valuable because a new retail website costs $11,000 - $29,000 on average to setup. (Source: Atlantic Business Technologies.)
1. You will wish to learn what is new in 2.0.
I will be sharing a video about what is new in Bridge 2.0.
A consumer research group surveyed Amazon and found significant evidence suggesting fake reviews for many items. Since reviews often influence your search results and help you decide, the fake reviews are potentially leading customers to bogus products.
Excerpt: "One example, a set of headphones by an unknown brand called Celebrat, had 439 reviews, all of which were five-star, unverified and were posted on the same day, suggesting they had been ...

This article about small banks could’ve very well been written about small retail stores. The future is tech. Bank of America has spent $20b on tech since 2012. Big retailers have likely spent that or more. And small businesses often don’t have the resources to make customers happy online. Much less survive a hacking attempt. I spent the last 2 weeks dealing with hackers from Asia. It took 3 tech people 2 weeks. Expensive. Time consuming. If small stores had to deal with this on their own, most ...

Amazon gives people products to review and doesn’t charge them for the gifts. This shows the power of reviews in driving purchases and in boosting a Google ranking. Amazon started its Vine review program more than 10 years ago—giving it a huge lead on competitors.
Have you been to Marion Emporium in South Carolina? Swing by and enjoy their beautiful shop--and you may bump into one of Bridge's review or wedding registry table tents. These encourage reviews and increase registry sign ups.
