I've posted a few times about green tableware, and below are 2 more entries that I came across. In total, it appears environmentally tableware can be made from: potato starch, sugarcane fiber, bamboo, and dried palm leaves.
Plates and utensils made from sugarcane fiber: http://www.branchhome.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=181 Branch's website states: These disposable (and biodegradable, and compostable) dinnerware pieces are designed for elegant entertaining, indoors or out. They're attractive, unbleached, FDA-approved food-safe, and they're much sturdier than standard paper plates. (They're comparable to Chinetâ„¢ brand plates.) Not only are they made from renewable resources (see above), they're microwavable, freezer safe, oil resistant, and capable of handling hot or cold foods and beverages.
