There’s a hidden month in the calendar: the 13th month. Those that follow this calendar often are very productive and lead successful ventures--as well as vex their significant others. What is the 13th month? It’s the sum of working Saturdays each week for about a year. There are 30 days in a month, and about 52 Saturdays in a year. In fact, there are almost 14 months in a year if you work Sundays, too. The 13th month is a calendar that most professional athletes, scholars, and conductors live. Gladwell, in his book Outliers, touched on this with his research that one often spends 10,000 hours before one masters a skill. As you know, Mozart produced a lot of great symphonies. But, you would, too, if you had started when he did: at 8 years of age. Mozart had a jump start of about 10 to 15 years on most other maestros. Lesson: more time spent often leads to more quality and output. It’s safe to say that Mozart worked 13 months a year. (And bonus points: he started 10 years before most.)
Today, a Saturday, Josh was working on the Bridge website. Also in the wings: me and Mark. If there's an issue, we’re often around, even on the weekend, to address it. That’s cool, unique, and part of what moves Bridge forward, faster, with a higher quality product.
Surely, I do recommend we balance the time we spend with other outlets. Quality time with friends and family is key to a healthy life. Unplugging is needed. Even when I take a run and do pushups, and my legs and arms ache, I appreciate the rest my eyes are receiving by not looking at a computer screen.
To those that can find a path to follow the 13 month calendar, a special thank you.
