QUEEN ELIZABETH WOULD CERTAINLY APPROVE. Herend's Queen Elizabeth Collection, which includes a ten-piece tea set, bonbon, and corgi Fishnet figurine, is targeted not just to Anglophiles and fans of the Queen, but to anyone who wishes to own a beautiful, unique piece of Herend, says Kimberley Kimball, president, Martin's Herend Imports. "When the Queen passed last year, the Herend manufactory sought out our input about their idea of creating some commemorative pieces celebrating her 70-year reign," says Kimball. "Contrary to newspaper obituaries that are written long in advance of a celebrity's passing, the manufactory had nothing in the works prior to Queen Elizabeth's death. There was something immortal about her, and the idea to honor her in this way came together once she died." The timeline was considerable, so the execs deemed it suitable to unveil it at the same time as King Charles' coronation. "This is a way to look back and honor the Queen at the dawn of this new royal era," Kimball notes. The collection honors the public and private Queen and incorporates her favorite flower, the lily of the valley. "We all agreed that for the tea set, the pattern needed to be something unique, befitting the woman it was meant to celebrate," Kimball enthuses. "The U.S. team had much creative input, but the Herend manufactory designed this collection. The tea set is painted in a variation on the Humboldt pattern, which was one of Herend's superlative patterns in the 19th century. While still available today, it's rarely produced and, therefore, exactly the type of extraordinary pattern needed to honor such an exceptional woman." The ten-piece tea set, $13,800, is limited to 70 sets and is presented in a luxury case. The bottom of the tray is inscribed with a message commemorating the Queen's coronation on June 2, 1953. The pierced bonbon, $2,560, carries through with the lily of the valley theme and also echoes the Sovereign's Orb carried by the Queen at her coronation, and the corgi figurine, $535, sports a crown collar.
