At the Table, a Touch of Couture
By JULIE LASKY
In 2009, the fashion label Christian Lacroix suspended its couture and women's ready-to-wear activities and lost 90 percent of its staff, including Mr. Lacroix. But under Sacha Walckhoff, Lacroix's longtime creative director, the company continues to design vibrant, pattern-clashing items. Next month in the United States, it will introduce a 50-piece collection of china in four motifs. The tableware, made by Vista Alegre in Portugal, features polychromatic butterflies, roughly painted black stripes, a floral mosaic and a 19th-century engraving of the ancient Roman arena in Arles. The bold consumer is encouraged to combine any or all of these patterns.
Prices range from $45 for a striped butter dish to $5,425 for a butterfly candelabra. Available at Michael C. Fina in New York and other stores: (212) 557-2500 or michaelcfina.com.
