Today’s WSJ article made me think:
1. We need to reserve a ticker symbol for Bridge, like BRDG.
2. Meta should use the ticker DATA or THEFT, as that’s the business they’re in. They are in the business of using your personal data—whether via Facebook or in the metaverse, often without us being aware. To see a web page on Facebook or Instagram often requires logging in. Don’t want to log in? Too bad, that’s the only way to see the content. For example, today I clicked a web page link and was taken to Instagram. Could I see even a modicum of text or a sliver of a picture? No. Meta required an account and login to see anything. This behavior by Meta is antithetical to how the web was designed. Requiring logins and being tracked is not what was envisioned. The web was promised as a platform to allow people to easily share information, pics, etc. and browse from page to page with one click.
Besides money, and greed, there is no good reason I need to login to see a picture.
Meta has not created a walled garden—it has created a fortress and tool to require compliance with its advertising army.
