RetailDive Shares News About Indie Stores But Misses Important Details
In last week's RetailDive, Kaarin Vembar penned an article about small businesses and their pains during the pandemic. Ms. Vembar and RetailDive promote the groundswell to e-commerce but sadly shortcut its existence in their very article.
She interviews the owner of Adorned Abode in Tacoma but doesn't add a link to the store's website--which would've boosted the store's Google ranking and increased clicks from readers, and she doesn't give much attention to the store's website offerings. In the article, Ms. Vembar states that e-commerce sales reached a record high on Black Friday (up 22%), but she doesn't show a picture of Adorned Abobe's website. If one is going to say that e-commerce is the biggest factor affecting retail, then one would expect a link to and pictures of websites. Ms. Vembar does not link to any of the stores cited in the article.
One would expect a review of what is working with online strategies and what is not working. Instead, this article shares plenty of statistics about e-commerce's growth but offers little 'meat and potatoes' on the specifics of indie store websites.
I was going to post my thoughts on Ms. Vembar's article on the respective page on RetailDive but, oddly, the RetailDive site does not have a comments section. One can only share the article, such as via email, LinkedIn, etc.
