This Amazon article in The Wall St. Journal caught my eye:
Shipping = less community connection. A shipping box represents Amazon. The shipping box is the antithesis of local engagement and support.
The smile logo is a scam: Robots don't smile. The box is faceless (don’t let the smile logo fool you). It’s not a person at your local store. This appears to be intentional: Amazon doesn’t seem to care that much about elevating people—its website is a similarly faceless and people-less place. It’s often hard to find out who is even selling a product on the site. Amazon seems very interested in elevating robots and technology over workers—who are our family and friends. Robots don't smile.
Shoppers are fueling robots and community disintegration. This sales funnel is a two-way street: People who shop on Amazon are enabling this approach to business and our communities.
Big-box, boxes, and local shops. Local stores have feared big-box stores for years. But it was the big cardboard box that may have been the real threat.
