17 Wedding Registry Features That Are Unique to Shop Local
We found 17 unique ways that our registry service helps gift givers, registrants, and merchants.
Our software helps the gift giver in ways that other services do not. For example, in the checkout process the cart shows that the purchase is a gift purchase. The gift giver can enter a gift message for the registrants.
Our software helps the registrant in ways that other services do not. For example, a registrant can easily share a link to their registry with family and friends via text, email, or social media.
Our software helps the merchant (e.g. retailer) in ways that other services do not. For example, a merchant can view all of the registry's purchases on one page. If a gift giver entered a gift message, the merchant can also see it in a gift message field.

When we compared our registry service to other registry software, we found 17 unique ways that our registry service helps gift givers, registrants, & merchants. Many other registry services don’t offer these 17 features below.6 Ways Our Service Helps Gift Givers in Ways That Other Services Do Not
Gift Giver’s Experience (E.g. Friend or family member giving a gift)
- The gift giver can easily find the registrant’s gift list because the service helps merchants rank on page 1 of Google, and the merchant’s registry home page shows current registries by default. The gift giver does not need to search for the registrant with an exact name match.
- Products that have already been gifted and those that are still needed are separated. This helps the gift giver more quickly give a gift.
- To see larger pictures of items on the gift list, the gift giver does not need to leave the registry list. A pop-up window shows more pictures.
- To see a gift’s dimensions or any additional details, one can view this in the pop-up window.
- In the checkout process, the cart mentions that the purchase is a gift purchase. This increases the likelihood that the gift giver will check out and complete the purchase. There is a gift message field in the checkout.
- The gift giver can enter a gift message in the checkout process.
4 Ways Our Service Helps the Registrant in Ways That Other Services Do Not
- The registrant can see gift messages that the gift giver entered when they made a purchase. (Other services won't show a gift note/message because their checkout system doesn’t offer a gift message field.)
- The registrant can easily promote their gift list. (Other services do not offer an easy way to promote their gift list. For example, there are no “share registry” tools.)
- The registrant can easily see what the retailer owes them. Shop Local offers a built-in, online accounting system for gifts received and given out. (Other services do not offer this accounting feature, so it's hard for the registrant to know what the merchant owes the registrant.)
- The registrant has the privacy they need. They can hide their shipping and/or home address. (Other services do not have these privacy settings. Other services require that the registrant’s address be publicly available if the gift is being shipped to the registrant.)
7 Ways Our Service Helps the Merchant in Ways That Other Services Do Not
- The merchant receives the gift message in the initial order in a gift message field. The merchant does not have to call or email the customer, asking if there is a gift message. (Other services do not have a dedicated gift message field in the checkout.)
- The merchant saves time updating products on the registry lists because of Shop Local's product syncing service. (Other services do not offer syncing. The merchants have to spend more time updating all the products offered in the registry service.)
- The merchant sells items on the gift lists at the current, up-to-date price because of the Shop Local Syncing service. (Other services do not have the Syncing service, and therefore the merchant is more likely to sell a gift at a wrong, lower price.)
- The merchant receives more orders because Shop Local has a built-in marketing program that encourages the registrant to promote their registry. (Other software does not have a built-in marketing service, and the merchant likely receives fewer orders.)
- The merchant can easily navigate between the Shop Local Store and Registry because they are made by the same software company. (Other registry software companies do not make the shopping cart and the registry software.)
- The merchant receives more sales leads because Shop Local has brand partnerships that promote the merchant. (Other registry software does not have brand partnerships.)
- Merchants do not need to code or use technical skills to use Shop Local. (Other registry software often requires coding or technical skills to add the service to its website.)
