What Emails are Sent to Registrants? / Email Communication

1. Sign up Email

When a registrant signs up on your website, your software sends the bride a welcome email by default. The welcome email contains a link to his/her registry.

If your store offers a gift card for completing the registry incentive steps, this welcome email will mention that.

Benefits of this email:

Your store will sell much more from a registry when a registrant adds a link on her official site leading to your site. This email includes a link to the registrants registry, which she can then share on her official wedding site. This email also gives the bride a written confirmation that her registry exists with your store.

How to turn off this email:

If you sign a registrant up on your Shop Local website and you are logged in as an administrator, you can choose to not send the registrant a welcome email. You do this by unchecking the box that says "Send welcome email" on the sign-up form.  We encourage you to send the welcome because to the registrant because it contains important information that helps your store sell more.

If you do not want registrants that sign up on their own on your site to receive a welcome email, you will change this setting on the Registry Settings page. There is a setting on the Registry Settings page in the "Registry Services" area.

2. Pre-wedding Emails

In the weeks leading up to the wedding, your Shop Local software sends an email to the registrant. The email asks the registrant to add a link on his/her official wedding website leading to the registrant's registry on the store's site.  Your software sends this reminder because if the registrant does not add a link, your store will very likely lose sales.

On the registrant's account, if the registrant has checked that he/she has done this in his/her incentive steps checklist, the software does not send this email reminder.

These emails are sent 45, 30, and 15 days before the wedding.

Benefits of this email:

Your store will sell much more from a registry when a bride adds a link on her official site leading to your site. The emails get that job done.

How to turn off this email:

  1. Log in to your Shop Local account.
  2. Hove over Management and click Gift Registry.
  3. On the Registry Settings page, look for the Registry Services area. In this area, find the choice "Before the event date, email registrant reminders to add a link on his/her official registry site linking back to your site". Change this to "No".
  4. Click on "Save Your Changes" at the bottom of the page.

3. Auto-populated Emails

On the registrant's registry page, when you are logged in as an administrator, there are links that allow your easily email the registrant. These links appear in the "Private / For Merchants Only: Tools and Settings" section. The links include:

  • General email. When you click this link, your software will auto-populate a general email to the registrant. You can then tailor the message to what you'd like to say.
  • Welcome email: When you click this link, your software will auto-populate a welcome email to the registrant. It will include a link to the registrant's email. You can then tailor the message to what you'd like to say.
  • Incentive email: When you click this link, your software will auto-populate an incentive email to the registrant. It will include a link to the registrant's email. You can then tailor the message to what you'd like to say.
  • theknot.com email. When you click this link, your software will auto-populate an email listing the steps to add a link to your store on theknot.com. It will include a link to the registrant's email. You can then tailor the message to what you'd like to say.

Benefits of this email:

These emails enable you to quickly communicate with your registrants.

They save you time and allow you to give accurate, important information with one click.

How to turn off this email:

You choose to when to send these; as such there is no 'turning off' of these emails. They are only sent when you click the email links on the registrant's page.

4. Post-purchase Emails

After a gift registry purchase is made, your software will send an email to the registrant alerting him/her that a gift has been purchased for the registrant. The email does not list the dollar amount of the gift. If the registrant wishes, he/she can log in to his/her registry and view orders and dollar amounts.

The store can set the software to delay the email alert that is sent to the registrant. For example, the software may wait 6 hours to alert the registrant that a purchase has been made. This allows you (the store) and your staff ample time to acknowledge and process the order before the bride is aware.

To change the delay on the gift alert email sent to the registrant, please see this support article:

https://www.shoplocal.org/help-center.cfm/93/turning-on-off-and-updating-email-alert-notifications-to-brides-when-they-receive-a-gift

Benefits of this email:

Registrants value this email because it keeps them in the abreast about what is occurring on their registry.  This email also helps keep your store top of mind with the registrant so that she promotes her registry with your store.

How to turn off this email:

On the Registry Settings page, look for the Registry Checkout area. In this area, find the choice "By default, email registrant when a purchase has been made". Change this to "No", then click on "Save Your Changes" at the bottom of the page.

5. Post-wedding Review Emails

Three weeks after the wedding date, your Shop Local software sends an email on the store's behalf asking the registrant to review his/her experience with your store.

Benefits to this email:

Reviews from registrants help increase your Google ranking and help more potential registrants decide to register at your store.

How to turn off this email:

There is a setting on the Registry Settings page to turn off sending a review request to the registrant after their wedding. This setting is in the "Registry" area.

6. Annual Anniversary Emails

On the day before the anniversary for a wedding, an anniversary email is sent to the registrant thanking him/her for registering with the store. There is not an overt solicitation for making a purchase.

Benefits to this email:

Promotes your store as a thoughtful business that cares about the registrant and wishes to stay in touch.
